Autoclave | Process using high pressures and temperatures, steam sterilization |
Biohazard | Material that has been in contact with body fluids and is capable of transmitting disease |
Cryosurgery | The process of freezing, used for removal of benign moles (nevi) |
Disinfection | A chemical or physical process in which disease-producing microorganisms or pathogens are killed, but not spores. |
Dorsal Recumbent | Lying on your back with legs bent up. Used for abdominal checks |
Exposure Control Plan | Describes how the employer will use engineering and work practice controls to minimize the employee’s exposure to bbp |

Fowler's | Sitting in an upward position and used for patients with respiratory/cardiovascular issues |
Incision and Drainage | A surgical cut made to achieve access or to allow discharge of unwanted material such as pus. |
Lithotomy | Medical position used mainly for female exams, childbirth, vaginal checks |
Prone | A position involving the patient to lay on his/her stomach |
Sanitation | The process of washing and scrubbing to remove materials such as body tissue, blood or other body fluids. |
Sims | Position used for taking temp and medication administration/patient lay on his/her left side with right leg bent up. |
Sterilization | The process of killing all microorganisms and their spores |
Supine | Laying on back with face upward |
Trendelenburg | A position in which the patients head is low and the legs are elevated |
Universal Precautions | An approach to infection control to treat all human blood and certain human body fluids as if they were known to be infectious for HIV, HBV and other bloodborne pathogens, regardless of their true pathogenicity. |
