Key terms:Definition:
Burn Physical injury to the skin caused by thermal, chemical, electrical or radioactive agents
Crash cart Cart with life saving equipment and medication
Crepitus Grating feeling from fractured bone fragments
Dis- Undo, free from
Dislocation bone separated from a joint
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system Community resources for victims of injury or sudden illnesses
First aid Immediate care before full medical care is provided
Fracture Break in bone
Hypo- Below, deficient
Hypothermia Very low body temperature (<95 degrees Fahrenheit)
-ia Condition of diseased or abnormal state
Poison Any toxic substance
Pressure point Location of artery that lies close to the surface of the skin
Seizure Sudden involuntary muscle contractions and relaxation
Shock Failure of the cardiovascular system to provide enough blood to vital organs
Splint A device to immobilize a body part
Sprain Trauma to joint that causes damage to the ligaments
Strain Overstretched muscle caused by trauma
Therm/o Heat
Wound A break of external or internal surface caused by force
