TermDefinition
Molt To shed the outer covering (hair, feathers, skin, fur, exoskeleton) to make room as an organism grows.
Stage Specific period of time during life or growth.
Egg The first stage in the life cycle of many organisms such as birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and insects.
Nymph Stage of INCOMPLETE METAMORPHOSIS during which an insect resembles a smaller version of the adult.
Complete Metamorphosis Type of development consisting of four specific stages—egg, larva, pupa, adult.
Incomplete Metamorphosis Type of development consisting of three distinct stages– eggs, nymph, adult.
Adult Fully grown organism that can reproduce.
Life Cycle All stages in the life of an organism from birth to death.
Pupa Stage of COMPLETE METAMORPHOSIS in which an organism seems to be resting and new body parts are being formed.
Larva Stage of COMPLETE METAMORPHOSIS during which an organism resembles a worm and its job is to eat and grow.
