science the knowledge obtained by observing natural events and conditions in order to discover facts and formulate laws or principals that can be verified or tested
experiment an organized procedure to study something under controlled conditions.
observation the process of obtaining information using the senses.
data information gathered by observation or experimentation that can be used in calculation or reasoning.
hypothesis a testable idea or explanation that leads to a scientific investigation
independent variable in a scientific investigation, the variable that is deliberately manipulated
dependent variable in a scientific investigation, the variable that changes as a result of manipulation, resulting in data to collect.
constant in a scientific investigation, the factors that do not change throughout the investigation.
experimental group in a scientific investigation, the group or trial that contains the independent variable.
control group in a scientific investigation, the group or trial that does not contain the the independent variable.
prediction A statement about what the outcome of an experiment will be without any explanation.
experimental control a part of an experiment in which the independent variable is not changed
repetition repeated trials by the same person
experimental errors when the experiment is not set up properly such as not having a control group or a large enough sample size.
measurement errors when the tools or people taking measurements are not accurate
scientific models used when the investigation is too large, too small or too complex to be carried out in a laboratory or field setting.
