| total fertility rate | the average number of children who would be born per person |
| demography | the study of information or data of things that show change in human population |
| population density | the average amount of people in a certain area |
| arithmetic population density | finds the number of people per square miles |
| physiologic population density | helps show the carrying capacity |
| agricultural density | compares the number of farmers to the area arable land |
| population distributions | the pattern of human settlement |
| dot maps | used to show the specific location and distribution of data |
| census | a count of the population |
| double timing | the amount of time it takes for a quantity to double in size |
| population explosion | the number of people that live in an area |
| natural increase | the percentage at which a country's population is growing |
| crude birth rate | the number of live births per year for each 1,000 people |
| crude death rate | the number of deaths per year per 1,000 people |
| child mortality rate | the death of children under the age of five |
| demographic transition model | a model that shows the shift/change between high birth rates and high death rates |
| epidemiology transition | describes changing patterns of population distributions in relation to changing patterns of mortality, fertility, life expectancy, and leading causes of death |
| stationary population levels | when population levels are remaining the same |
| population composition | what makes up a population |
| population pyramid | a tool used to study population of a country |
| infant mortality rate | number of children who die before age 1 |
| life expectancy | how long people are expected to live |
| aids | human immune deficiency virus |
| chronic diseases | a disease that usually lasts 3 months and might get worse over time (cancer) |
| infectious diseases | caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites; can be spread (Covid 19) |
| genetic diseases | when a mutation (harmful change to a gene) changes your genetic material in a harmful way (Down Syndrome) |
| Malthusian's Theory | Population growth is exponential while food is linear, leading to producing to living standards |
| Pronatalist | Someone who encourages others to have children |
| Eugenic Population Policies | Favors one racial group |
| Antinatalist | Belief that it is wrong to have children |
