Ecosystems Vocabulary
Term | Definition |

Ecosystem | The LIVING and NON-LIVING organisms in an environment. |
Decomposer | Found at the end of the food chain. Break down dead organisms. |
Producer | An organism that makes its own food through photosynthesis. |
Photosynthesis | Makes sunlight energy available to all organisms in an ecosystem. |
Mutualism | Both organisms benefit. |
Mutualism | Bird & Flower Relationship. Bee gets nectar and the flower gets pollinated. |
Commensalism | One organism benefits the other is not affected. |
Commensalism | Whale & Barnacle Relationship. Whale has NO benefits but the Barnacle gets food. |
Carnivore | Eats ONLY meat |
Herbavore | Eats ONLY plants. |
Population | ONE type of an organism living together. Pack of Wolves or a Swarm of Bees |
Sun and Trees | Trees use the sun's energy to make food. |
