| What is the basic purpose of correlational research method? | To detect naturally occurring relationships; to assess how well one variable predicts another. |
| What is the purpose of experimental research method? | To explore cause and effect. |
| How is descriptive research method conducted and is anything manipulated? | So case studies, naturalistic observations, or surveys. Nothing is manipulated. |
| How is correlational research method conducted and is anything manipulated? | Collect data on two or more variables; no manipulation. |
| How is experimental research method conducted and is anything manipulated? | Manipulate one or more factors; use random assignment. The independent variables are manipulated. |
| What is the weakness of descriptive research method? | No control variables; single cases may be misleading. |
| What is the weakness of correlational research method? | Cannot specify cause and effect |
| What is the weakness of experimental research method? | Sometimes not feasible; results may not generalize to other contexts; not ethical to manipulate certain variables. |
