Food Webs

TermDefinition
Food Web a system of food chains showing different ways energy moves through an ecosystem
Producer an organism that makes its own energy
Consumer an organism that must eat to get energy
Predator an organism that hunts other animals
Herbivore a consumer that eats only plants
Omnivore a consumer that eats both plants and animals
Carnivore a consumer that only eats other animals
Decomposer an organism that decomposes organic material. Examples include bacteria and fungi.
Photosynthesis the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to produce foods from carbon dioxide and water.
Energy Transfer the movement of food energy from producers to consumers.
Primary Consumer an organism that feeds on primary producers
Secondary Consumer organisms that eat primary consumers for energy.
Sun the primary energy source.
