TermDefinition
Cognitive Development Development of Mental processes over a lifetime
Concrete thinking Literal, see, touch
Symbolic thinking Sophisticated, represent abstract concepts
Assimilation Placing new information into pre-existing ideas
Accomadation Changing ideas to fit new information
Emotional development The ability to control, express and recognise emotions appropriately that is developed over the course of an individuals life
Attatchment Long lasting bond between two individuals
Secure attachment Individuals needs being constantly met, calming and reassuring the infant when stressed.
Insecure attachment The individuals needs constantly being ignored resulting in the infant not finding comfort and affection issues such as anxiety or inappropriate emotional expression.
Psychosocial crisis A point of tension between an individuals capabilities and their desire to meet the expectations of society.
Sensitive period Period of development that is optimal to learn a specific function of skill
Critical period Period of development where a specific skill of function must be learnt or it will not develop
Beneficence YES, reduces harm to future generations by providing information on the most successful way to raise children. There was harm however this was minimised as they provided loving homes with different values.
Integrity NO, They did research before conducting the experiment however the intentions were not pure. They never released or has the intention of releasing the study data to the participants or the general public.
Justice NO, They did not discriminate against the twins however by splitting them up they provided different advantages in life and gave no access to the final results.
Non-maleficence NO, They designed the research knowing it would psychologically damage the twins and triplets in their study. They may have believes the cost benefits outweighed the risks however they did no design this with the participants welfare in mind.
Respect NO, They did not respect the participants or parents involved, they did not respect by considering heir human participants. They never allowed them ti be aware of the experiment even after it has concluded and treated them like lab rats
