| Phenotype | The observable differences between people that develops as their genotype interacts with their environment |
| MZ twins | twins that share 100% DNA |
| DZ twins | twins that share 50% DNA |
| Chromosomes | Structures containing genetic material |
| SRY genes | Gene responsible for initiation of male development process |
| Testosterone | male sex hormone |
| Hemisphere | one of two sides of the brain |
| Localisation of function | Area of the brain responsible for specific behaviour e.g. the left is responsible for language |
| Limbic system | A collection of structures in the mid-brain that processes memory and emotional information |
| Neurotransmitters | Chemicals that send messages across neurons |
| Hormones | Chemicals that are released into the bloodstream |
| Evolution | The process of change through genetic mutations |
| Lobes | Components of the brain (4 in total) |
| Adaptive advantage | Any feature that increases the chance of survival |
| Environment of evolutionary adaption | The conditions that existed during the period of evolutionary change |
