Cefazolin

Cefazolin Mechanism of action first generation Cephalosporin antibiotic with activity against gram negative and gram positive bacteria. It inhibits production of the bacteria cell wall causing it to die.
Cefazoline Indications (2) -Sepsis, where the source of infection appears to be in the soft tissue or joint and the patient is 12 years or greater. There is one or more clinical features indicating antibiotics. Time to hospital greater than 30 minutes. - Cellulitis, and not being
Cefazolin Contraindications Known severe allergy to Cephalosporins
Cefazolin Cautions None
Cefazolin Dose 1 G IV
Cefazolin administration 4ml in 1 g ampoule, dilute to a total of 10 ml. Administer IV over 1-2 minutes into a running line.
Cefazolin additional notes Rapid administration can cause phlebitis. Predominantly excreted in the urine. Clearance is prolonged if the patient has significant kidney impairment, does not alter loading dose.
