ethmoid | ETH-moyd SY-nus) A type of paranasal sinus (a hollow space in the bones around the nose). Ethmoid sinuses are found in the spongy ethmoid bone in the upper part of the nose between the eyes. |
sphenoid bone | The sphenoid is just one of the twenty-two bones that form the skull and essentially helps to connect the neurocranium to the facial skeleton. |
occipital bone | The occipital bone is a cranial dermal bone and the main bone of the occiput It is trapezoidal in shape and curved on itself like a shallow dish. |
inferior nasal conchae | The inferior nasal conchae are a pair of bones, with one concha on either side, that separates the middle and lower nasal meatus, or nasal cavity. |
palatine bones | each of two bones within the skull forming parts of the eye socket, the nasal cavity, and the hard palate. |
maxillae | The maxilla (plural: maxillae /mækˈsɪliː/) in vertebrates is the upper fixed (not fixed in Neopterygii) bone of the jaw formed from the fusion of two maxillary bones. In humans, the upper jaw includes the hard palate in the front of the mouth. |
mandible | The mandible is the largest and strongest bone of the human skull. It is commonly known as the lower jaw and is located inferior to the maxilla. |
fontanels | a space between the bones of the skull in an infant or fetus, where ossification is not complete and the sutures not fully formed. The main one is between the frontal and parietal bones. |
zygomatic bone | the bone that forms the prominent part of the cheek and the outer side of the eye socket. |
manubrium | the broad upper part of the sternum of mammals, with which the clavicles and first ribs articulate. |
