Name a kind of yeast that is harmful. Malassezia, candida
What products do yeast release to make bread rise and to make wine or beer? Carbon dioxide and alcohol
What kind of mold was first discovered to cure bacterial infections? Penicillium
Where is mycelium found? Underground
What produces fruiting bodies? The mycelium
What is the purpose of the fruiting body? To reproduce
Why is it important that spores are hydrophobic (water resistant)? So they can stay dry and be blown far away from the parent fungi
Name a few ways mushrooms release or disperse spores. Mechanical dispersal, smell, animal dispersal, water dispersal
Why are most mushrooms good for your garden? They decompose plant and animal matter, turning it into a healthy compost
What are mycorrhizal mushrooms? Mushrooms that form a symbiotic relationship with plants
How do these mushrooms benefit plants? They grow around the plant's roots, providing them with moisture, phosphorous, and other important nutrients
What does the mushroom receive from the plant? Sugar
