deep away from the body surface; more internal
digital pertaining to the fingers or toes
distal pertaining to away (from the point of attachment)
epigastric pertaining to above the stomach
femoral pertaining to the femur (thigh bone)
fibular pertaining to the lateral side of the leg
frontal (coronal) plane divides the body into front (anterior) and back (posterior)
gluteal pertaining to the buttocks
histology study of tissues
hypochondriac pertaining to under the cartilage
hypogastric pertaining to under the stomach
iliac pertaining to the ilium
inferior pertaining to below
inguinal pertaining to the groin
lateral pertaining to the side
lumbar pertaining to the loin (side and back between ribs and pelvic bone)
medial pertaining to the middle
nasal pertaining to the nose
oral pertaining to the mouth
orbital pertaining to the eyes
patellar pertaining to the anterior knee (kneecap)
pelvic pertaining to the pelvis
plantar pertaining to the bottom of the foot
popliteal pertaining to the posterior of the knee
posterior pertaining to the back
proximal pertaining to near (towards the point of attachment)
pubic pertaining to the genital region
sacral pertaining to the sacrum
sagittal plane divides the body into left and right (lateral and medial)
scapular pertaining to the scapula or shoulder blade area
spinal pertaining to the spine
sternal pertaining to the sternum
superficial pertaining to toward or at the body surface
superior pertaining to above
sural pertaining to the calf or posterior surface of the leg
tarsal pertaining to the tarsus (ankle)
thoracic pertaining to the chest
transverse plane divides the body into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) parts
