TermDefinition
Functionalism Focused on how our mental and behavioral processes function, influences how they allow us to adapt, survive, and flourish. Used to understand how mentality helps adaptation and achieving goals. EX: Creativity allows innovative solutions to problems
Structuralism Uses introspection to explore elemental structures of the human mind. Breaks down mental processes to study how the components combine to form psychological phenomenas. EX: Describing time at the beach by saying it's windy, cold, but rejuvenating.
Empiricism The view that knowledge comes from experience and because of that, science should rely on observations and experiments. EX: If you got burned by a hot surface and now know not to touch a hot stove because your experience touching one was harmful
Introspection Examination of someone's own thoughts and feelings. A technique that deals with in depth examination and description of a conscious. Can be done on yourself to report your own thoughts and feelings as self evaluation. EX: Journaling, meditating
