Fire/Medical Call Natures and Definitions

Abdominal Pain | Non traumatic pain or discomfort in the abdominal area |
Aircraft Emergency | Any situation, not necessarily a crash, which forces an aircraft to make an unscheduled or emergency landing. |
Fire Alarm Level 1 | Commercial property / multi-living facilities with multiple and/or full building alarm activations; no reported odor/visible sign of smoke or flame. |
Fire Alarm Level 2 | Single alarm activations for commercial buildings and all activations for single family residences; no reported odor/visible sign of smoke or flame. |
Medical Alarm | A medical alarm called in by an alarm company after they receive pendant or other device activation from a customer. This Unicode is only used if the alarm company does not have contact with a patient or is unable to verify another medical condition. |
Alcohol Poisoning | Any medical condition believed to be caused by the overconsumption of alcohol. |
Allergic Reaction | The body’s over-reaction to generally harmless substances. |
Animal Attack | Animal attack or animal bite that is in progress or just occurred. |
Arcing Line | An elevated power line, transformer, or other unidentified line that is arcing, sparking and/or on fire and does not endanger a structure(s). |
Assault | Medical response needed for a physical assault/battery, includes sexual assault. |
Back Pain | Pain that is non-traumatic in nature or pain from a non-recent back injury or condition. |
Assist Public | Request for assistance by a citizen or non-LE organization, not related to a FM emergency. |
Breathing Problems | Problems in the lungs or problems in the upper airway. |
Building Collapse | Part or all of a structure that has experienced a loss/failure of structural integrity and has collapsed |
Burns / Explosions | Any burn or explosion requiring a medical response. |
Car Fire | A vehicle fire in an open area that does not endanger a structure. |
Cardiac | Unconscious person with ineffective breathing or not breathing at all. Includes agonal, or uncertain breathing, hanging, strangulation, suffocation, or underwater. |
Chest Pain | Non traumatic pain or discomfort in the chest area. |
Choking | Complete or partial obstruction of the airway. |
CO Alarm | Carbon monoxide alarm with no reported sickness. |
CO Alarm with sickness | Carbon monoxide alarm with reported symptoms of sickness. |
Confined Space Rescue | A person trapped in a constrictive space, typically with a hazardous atmosphere (ex: manhole, water well), requiring extraordinary measures to free. |
Convulsions / Seizures | Abnormal firing of brain cells creating a wave of cellular electrical activity resulting in simultaneous stimulation of multiple body activities and functions. |
Diabetic Problems | Potentially life threatening condition resulting from abnormal blood sugar levels. Hypoglycemia/insulin shock, diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic coma. |
Drowning | Suffocation resulting from exposure to a liquid environment. A near-drowning is a person who begins to drown but is rescued and revived. |
Dumpster Fire | A fire in a dumpster, waste receptacle, or recycling bin that does not endanger a structure. |
Electrocution | Life threatening exposure to an electrical source. Electrocution or lightning strike. |
Elevator Rescue | A person trapped in an elevator that has ceased normal operations and/or has experienced a serious or catastrophic malfunction. |
Eye Problems | Any non-traumatic or traumatic injury to the eye. Causes including: chemical, contact lens, direct blow, flying object, medical eye problem, penetrating object, small foreign object and/or welding. |
Fall | A fall of less than 10 feet (adult/child) or 6 feet (infant) with known or suspected injuries. |
Long Fall | An unobstructed fall from more than 10 feet (adult /child) or 6 feet (infant) with known or suspected injuries. A fall down a flight of stairs is a series of short falls and should be handled as a fall. |
Lift Assist | A fall of less than 10 feet with no injuries and no expected injuries when assistance is needed to get back into bed / chair |
Fire Other | Any request for a fire response that cannot be classified under any other call start code. |
Fuel Spill | Small to moderate amount of petroleum product that has leaked or spilled – the amount of which is not significant enough to constitute HAZMAT. |
Gas Leak | A natural or propane gas line that is leaking or broken/cut. The decision to upgrade to HAZMAT rests with incident command. |
Gas Odor | An odor of natural or propane gas, either indoors or outdoors, from an unknown source. |
Grass Fire Level 3 | Five acres or less and/or an isolated brush pile. |
Grass Fire Level 2 | More than five acres, but less than 50 acres. |
Grass Fire Level 1 | More than fifty acres and/or there is a structure in immediate danger. |
Hazmat | Any substance (solid, liquid, gas) that poses an immediate harm to human life or the environment and requires immediate containment and cleanup |
Headache | Any non-traumatic pain in the head caused by dilation of cerebral arteries, muscle contraction, insufficient oxygen to the cerebral blood, reaction to drugs, etc |
Heart Problems | Heart problems including firing of A.I.C.D., pace maker or irregular heartbeat. |
Heat / Cold Exposure | Potentially life threatening condition or injury resulting from prolonged exposure to a hot or cold environment. |
Hemorrhage | Controlled or uncontrolled bleeding from any area. |
High Angle Rescue | A person trapped or stranded at a high elevation requiring rescue through the use of a fire apparatus, rescue may utilize aerial ladders, but generally involves rescue rope and rigging. |
Industrial Accident | Mechanical/machinery entrapment, structure collapse, inaccessible terrain situation, mudslide/avalanche. |
Medical Standby | Any request for a medic unit to standby where a potential, short-term medical hazard exists. |
Medical Transfer | Transfer from LMH back to a residence. |
MVA Level 3 | Minor injury accidents and/or when LE request a medic to check for injuries and/or if there are suspected/possible injuries. |
MVA Level 2 | Any accident above minor, with injuries that sound serious. Generally one patient with serious injuries and other(s) with less serious injuries. |
MVA Level 1 | Any accident with multiple patients that have serious injuries. Accidents with someone pinned in or under a vehicle. If there is any indication that someone may be trapped the call should be classified with this level. |
Occupancy Check | A check for occupancy/overcrowding at a public assembly location (bar, theater, etc.), handled by LDCFM Night Consultant Units during the evening or early morning hours. |
Odor | An odor, either indoors or outdoors, from an unknown source. |
Overdose Accidental | Medical response for a un- intentional overdose of medications, drugs, etc |
Overdose Intentional | Medical response for an intentional overdose of medications, drugs, etc. |
Powerline Down | A power line or other unidentified line that has fallen to the ground and/or within reach, not necessarily arcing or on fire, and does not endanger any structure. |
Pregnancy | Any medical complications due to pregnancy. |
Psychiatric | Use when a patient is displaying abnormal behavior and an ambulance is needed for transport. |
Semi Fire | A tractor trailer or transport vehicle fire in an open are that does not endanger any structure(s). |
Shooting Level 2 | One victim LINKED TO LE- SHOOTING / SHOOT |
Shooting Level 1 | Multiple victims LINKED T O LE- SHOOTING / SHOOT |
Sick Person | A patient with a non-categorized chief complaint who does not have an identifiable priority symptom. |
Stabbing Level 2 | One victim LINKED TO LE- STABBING / STAB |
Stabbing Level 1 | Multiple victims LINKED TO LE- STABBING / STAB |
Stroke | Disruption of blood flow to the brain or part of the brain due to a blood clot or hemorrhage. |
Structure Fire Level 3 | Can include the following: contained oven fire, electrical outlet/fixture sparking with no fire, smoke outside the residence from an unknown source, second hand report of smoke inside a residence that has not been verified. |
Structure Fire Level 2 | Can include the following: fire that is reported out, a vehicle on fire near a structure, a fence on fire connected to a structure, smoke present with no visible flames. |
Structure Fire Level 1 | A working fire in a residence, verified smoke in a residence with victims inside, report of an active fire that has not been verified. |
Traumatic Injury | Physical injury or wound caused by an external force through accident or violence. |
Trench Rescue | Part or all of a trench that has collapsed and endangers human life. |
Unconscious | An unconscious person who is breathing effectively or a person who has fainted or nearly fainted. |
Unknown Medical | When an alarm company does not have contact with a patient, a language problem when an ambulance is needed but unknown nature, when the caller is not with the patient and unable to provide a specific chief complaint. |
Water/Ice Rescue | Any rescue involving a body of water - may include any situation on a body of water not necessarily endangering human life. |
