6 Guidelines for Doing Ethical Psychological Research
# 1-6 | Guidline |
---|---|
1 | Participation in any experiment should be voluntary and participants may withdraw from the study at any time. |
2 | Participants must be allowed to make an informed decision about participation. (Get Informed Consent.) |
3 | The rights and well-being of participants must be protected. Participants must be protected from harm and told explicitly of any risks or discomfort. The study’s value to science must be weighed against the possible discomfort of subjects. |
4 | Studies should use deception only when it cannot be avoided (and not when pain or emotional distress will result) |
5 | If deception is used, researchers must debrief participants, telling the true nature of the study & offer support/counseling. |
6 | Subjects’ data must remain confidential. |
