| Insomnia | Persistent problems in either falling or staying asleep |
| Insomnia effects | Chronic tiredness, reliance on sleeping pills or other substances, increased anxiety around sleeping |
| Insomnia treatments | Find out the root problem and address it/ Do not rely on sleeping pills--risk of tolerance, reduced REM |
| Insomnia Prevalence | 1 in 10 adults (1 in 4 older adults) |
| Narcolepsy | sudden attacks of overwhelming sleepiness with cataplexy (loss of muscle control) |
| Narcolepsy Prevalence | 1 in 2000 |
| Narcolepsy Effects | May collapse directly into REM sleep--very dangerous, cannot drive or climb |
| Narcolepsy Treatment | Medication, preventative safety |
| Sleep Apnea Prevalence | 1 in 20 |
| Sleep Apnea | intermittently ceasing breathing while sleeping for a few seconds at a time |
| Sleep Apnea Effects | Fatigue, depression. |
| Sleep Apnea Treatment | Lifestyle changes, CPAP machine/ Pumps air into nostrils to keep airway open |

| Night Terrors | Episodes of intense fear while asleep/ May sit up, walk around, talk- and have no memory (NREM-3)/ Doubled heart rate & breathing rates |
