QuestionAnswer
what are the stages of a cell? organelle, cell, tissue, organ, organ system, organism
what is the cell cycle? a repeated pattern if growth, DNA replication, and cell division
what are stem cells? undifferentiated cells that can become differentiated into 1 or more types of specialized cells, embryonic and adult stem cells
what is the S phase? DNA synthesis
what is synthesis? DNA replication, doubling the number of chromosomes
what is the process of DNA replication? 1) unzip the DNA 2) enzymes speed up binding (A-T and C-G)
what happens in interphase? growth and duplication of a cell
what happens in G1 phase? what is made in G1? cell grows ; proteins and organelles are made
what does semi-conservative replication mean and what does it have to do with DNA replication? it means that half of the DNA is conserved; during DNA replication, half of the DNA is conserved and the other half is replicated
what happens in G2 phases? what is made in G2 phase? preparation fro mitosis; more cell growth and protein synthesis
what do check points look for and where are they located? check points can look for cell growth/size, DNA replication; they are located at the end of G1 phase, at the end of G2 phase, and at the end of mitosis
what does IPMAT Crazy stand for and what is it? interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, cytokinesis; it is the mitotic phase but interphase isn't a part of it
what is the shape of a animal cell? rounded
what is the shape of a plant cell? flat sided
what is cancer? uncontrolled cell division
what are tumors? clumps of cells that divide uncontrollably
what is benign? abnormal cells that remain together, and it is usually harmless
what is malignant? cancer cells that break away and spread to other body parts that make more tumors
what is metastasize? spreading of disease from one organ to others

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
