Term | Definition |

Astronomy | The study of outer space and the objects in it. |
Revolution | The time it takes an object to travel around the Sun. |
Orbit | The path an object takes as it revolves around another object, Earth's orbit as it travels around the Sun is an ellipse. |
Rotaion | The spinning motion of Earth or any object in space, like a top on its axis. (Earth orbit = 24 hours) |
Seasons/Days | The changes are caused by the change in the angle of the sunlight hitting the Earth as it travels around the Sun. |
Axis | The imaginary line around the Earth which the Earth rotates on, that extends through the poles. |
Spherical | Shaped like a ball or a globe. |
Solstice | The two days of the year on which the noon sun is directly overhead at 23.5 degrees S or 23.5 degrees N. |
Equinox | The two days of the year when neither hemisphere is tilted toward or away from the sun. |
Vernal Equinox | The day of the year that marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. |
Autumnal Equinox | The day of the year that marks the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. |
