Term | Definition |

revolution | the time it takes an object to travel around its sun. |
orbit | The path an object takes as it revolves around another object. Earth's orbit as it travels around the sun is an ellipse. |
rotation | the spinning motion of Earth or any object in space, like a top on its axis.(Earth orbit = 24 hours) |
Seasons/Days | These changes are caused by the change in the angle of the sunlight hitting the Earth as it travels around the sun. |
Axis | The imaginary line around which the earth rotates, extending through the poles. |
spherical | shaped like a ball or globe. |
Solstice | The two days of the year on which the noon sun is directly overhead at either 23.5 degrees S or 23.5 degrees N. |
Equinox | The two days of the year on which neither hemisphere is tilted toward or away from the sun. |
Vernal Equinox | The day of the year that marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. |
Autumnal Equinox | The day of the year that marks the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. |
