How many liters of blood does a healthy, adult, human male contain? Female? Male: 5 - 6 liters Female: 4 - 5 liters
What is the life span of a RBCs circulating in the blood stream? 105 - 120 days
How are blood types named? According to the antigens present (agglutinogens) on RBC membranes
Describe the endocardium A delicate lining of the interior of the myocardial wall
Define metarteriole The term used to describe the short connecting vessel that connects a true arteriole with the proximal end of be-tween 20 and 100 capillaries and then extends through the capillary bed
What are the additional blood vessels in the fetus that carry the fetal blood into close approximation with the maternal blood and return it to the fetal body Two umbilical arteries, the umbilical vein, and the ductus venosus.
What are varicose veins? enlarged veins in which blood tends to pool rather than continue on toward the heart.
