homogeneous mixture mixture that is uniform in composition and properties; solutions are an example
heterogeneous mixture not uniform in composition and has different properties throughout
element pure substances made of only one type of atom;
compound formed from two or more different types of atoms that have been combined chemically in fixed proportions
acid aqueous solutions with a pH <7; stronger the acid the lower the number; feel rough
base aqueous solutions with a pH >7; greater the number the stronger the base; feel slippery
Pure substance an element or compound made up of one type of particle; with a fixed structure and definite properties
pH a measure of how acidic/basic a solution is; ranges from 0 - 14
neutral A chemical solution that is neither acidic nor basic; has a pH of 7
corrosive a solution that can damage or destroy materials or living tissue through chemical action; strong acids and bases
solution a homogeneous mixture of one or more solutes dissolved in a solvent
