Term | Definition |
---|---|
Matter | Anything that takes up space and has mass. |
Particles | Tiny pieces that make up matter, too small to be seen with the naked eye. |
Model | A representation or example used to explain how something works. |
Observation | Using your senses to gather information about something. |
Measurement | Finding out the size, amount, or number of something using tools like rulers or scales. |
Properties | Characteristics that describe matter, such as color, shape, or texture.Properties |
Substance | A type of matter with specific properties. |
Mixing | Combining two or more substances together. |
New Substance | A material that forms when two or more substances interact and create something different. |
Change | When matter becomes different in some way, such as changing shape or temperature. |
Weight | How heavy something is; the measure of the force of gravity on an object.Conservation |
Graph | A chart that shows information in a visual way, like bars or lines. |
Heating | Adding energy to a substance to make it warmer. |
Cooling | Removing energy from a substance to make it cooler. |
Evidence | Information or data used to support an idea or conclusion. |
Mix | To combine two or more substances so that they become one. |
Investigation | A careful study or experiment to find out something. |
Mass | The amount of matter in an object, which doesn’t change regardless of location. |
Volume | The amount of space that matter occupies. |
Density | How much mass is in a certain volume of matter, often described as how heavy or light something is for its size. |
Liquid | A state of matter that has a definite volume but no definite shape. |
Solid | A state of matter that has a definite shape and volume. |
Gas | A state of matter that has no definite shape or volume. |
Dissolve | When a substance mixes with a liquid and seems to disappear. |
Solution | A mixture where one substance is dissolved in another. |
Chemical Reaction | A process where substances mix and change to form new substances. |
Physical Change | A change in which no new substances are formed, such as changing state or shape. |
Solubility | How well a substance can dissolve in another substance. |
