Matter Anything that takes up space and has mass.
Particles Tiny pieces that make up matter, too small to be seen with the naked eye.
Model A representation or example used to explain how something works.
Observation Using your senses to gather information about something.
Measurement Finding out the size, amount, or number of something using tools like rulers or scales.
Properties Characteristics that describe matter, such as color, shape, or texture.Properties
Substance A type of matter with specific properties.
Mixing Combining two or more substances together.
New Substance A material that forms when two or more substances interact and create something different.
Change When matter becomes different in some way, such as changing shape or temperature.
Weight How heavy something is; the measure of the force of gravity on an object.Conservation
Graph A chart that shows information in a visual way, like bars or lines.
Heating Adding energy to a substance to make it warmer.
Cooling Removing energy from a substance to make it cooler.
Evidence Information or data used to support an idea or conclusion.
Mix To combine two or more substances so that they become one.
Investigation A careful study or experiment to find out something.
Mass The amount of matter in an object, which doesn’t change regardless of location.
Volume The amount of space that matter occupies.
Density How much mass is in a certain volume of matter, often described as how heavy or light something is for its size.
Liquid A state of matter that has a definite volume but no definite shape.
Solid A state of matter that has a definite shape and volume.
Gas A state of matter that has no definite shape or volume.
Dissolve When a substance mixes with a liquid and seems to disappear.
Solution A mixture where one substance is dissolved in another.
Chemical Reaction A process where substances mix and change to form new substances.
Physical Change A change in which no new substances are formed, such as changing state or shape.
Solubility How well a substance can dissolve in another substance.
