Energy Unit

Vocabulary for energy unit

TermDefinition
Conservation The principle that a certain quantity remains constant over time even as it changes form
Mass A measure of the amount of matter in an object usually measured in grams or kilograms
Energy the ability to do work or cause change it exists in various forms such as kinetic, potential, thermal and more.
Work The transfer of energy that occurs when a force is applied to an object and the objects move in the same direction of the force.
Force A push or pull that can cause an object to move change direction or change shape measured in Newton (N)
Potential Energy The stored energy in an energy due to its position or state for example a rock at the top of a hill has potential energy.
Kinetic Energy The energy an object possesses due to its motion calculated using KE=1/2 m v2 which is half of the mass x the velocity squared
Mechanical Energy The total energy of an object due to its motion (kinetic) and its position (potential)
Thermal Energy The energy that comes from the temperture of an object it is the total kinetic energy of particles in a substances
Radiant Energy The energy electromagnets waves such as light it can travel though space
Electrical Energy The energy caused by the movement of electrons used to power electrical devices.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
