TermDefinition
Parietal Lobe: deals with receiving sensory input for touch and body position structures of the cortex. Also deals with Math and Spatial Reasoning. is an association area.
Temporal Lobe: deals with auditory areas receiving information from opposite ears structures of the cortex
Occipital Lobe: deals with receiving information from visual fields structures of the cortex
Frontal Lobe: deals with speaking, muscle movements, making plans, and judgement structures of the cortex
Motor Cortex is a cerebral cortex area at the rear of the frontal lobes that controls voluntary movements. Our lips and and fingers have the most tissues on the motor cortex. These are best for fine motor skills. EG; playing an instrument or speaking clearly.
Somatosensory Cortex: is an area at the front of the parietal lobe, that registers and process body touch and movement sensations. Sensory functions.
Prefrontal Cortex: Planning judgement social interactions processing new memories damage to frontal lobe can alter personality, impulsivity, and morality (Finneas Gage) is an association area.
Facial Reignition: area is located underside of the right temporal lobe. Is an association area.
Association Areas: Are areas that are not involved in a primary motor or sensory functions; are involved in higher mental processes
Neuroplasticity: is the brain's ability to change especially during childhood. the brains response to damage.
Constraint-Induced Therapy: trying to rewire brains by restraining limbs. Or being blind or deaf can give you heightened senses. is a response to brain damage.
Neurogenesis: is the formation of new neurons. Stem cells that can resemble functioning human neurons. Is a response to brain damage.
what can't regenerate from Brain damage? Severed brain and spinal cord neurons do not regenerate.
Corpus Callosum: is what connecting the left and right hemispheres of the brain. consists of a large band of neural fibers that carry messages. from one hemisphere to the other.
The Left Hemisphere of the brain: This hemisphere deals with language and math.
The Right Hemsisphere of the brain: deals with making inferences, making meanings clear (using language), orchestrating self-awareness, and perceptual.
