Assignment 1
Week 1-5 Mid-term Study
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Anatomy | is the branch of biology that studies the structure and organization of living organisms. |
Physiology | is the branch of biology that studies the functions and processes of living organisms and their parts. |
Sagittal Plane | Divides the body into left and right sections. If it runs directly down the midline, it is called the midsagittal or median plane. |
Coronal Plane | Divides the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) sections. |
Transverse Plane | (or Horizontal Plane): Divides the body into superior (upper) and inferior (lower) sections. |
Oblique Plane | Any plane that is not aligned with the three primary planes (sagittal, coronal, transverse), typically cutting through the body at an angle. |
List order of increasing complexity the levels of organization of the body and the major organ systems, | Chemical level, Cellular level, Tissue Level, Organ level, Organ System level, and Organism level. |
Chemical Level | Atoms and molecules, the basic building blocks of matter. |
Cellular Level | Cells, the basic units of life, composed of various molecules. |
Cellular Level | Tissues, groups of similar cells that perform specific functions. |
Organ Level | Organs, structures made up of different tissues working together for specific functions. |
Organ System Leve | Organ systems, groups of organs that work together to perform complex functions. |
Organism Level | The entire living entity, capable of independent life, such as a human being. |
Metabolism | refers to the sum of all chemical reactions that occur within a living organism to maintain life. |
Catabolism | The process of breaking down larger molecules into smaller ones, releasing energy in the process. |
Anabolism | The process of building larger molecules from smaller ones, requiring energy input. |
3 types of muscle tissue | Skeletal Muscle, Cardiac Muscle, and Smooth Muscle. |
Classify the four types of bones | Long bones, Short bones, Flat bones, and Irregular bones. |
Name the six major structures | Skeletal system, Muscular system, Nervous system, Endocrine system, Cardiovascular system, and Respiratory system. |
