Precipitation
Question | Answer |
---|---|
What is precipitation? | when droplets accumulate, the cloud gets heavier and larger, and reaches the saturation point |
What are the forms of precipitation? | rain, snow, sleet, hail |
What is the role of temperature in making rain vs. snow? | warmer temperature makes rain and colder temperature makes snow |
What temperature does crystallization happen vs. snow? | 32 degrees and less |
What is phase change for rain? | None, it's L to L |
What is the phase change for snow? | L to S |
What is reservoir? | storage area for H20 (water) |
What are the different types of reservoirs? | aquifers, oceans, lakes, glaciers, icecaps |
What are groundwater and groundwater flow? | groundwater is H20 below the ground and groundwater flow is movement of groundwater from high to low elevations |
Where does gravity play a role in moving water on the surface and below the surface? | water is pulled down by gravity and sinks through permeable ground (permeable means that it can absorb water) |
What is an aquifer? | permeable sediment or rock (permeable means absorbent, which means it can take in water) |
