TermDefinition
Chemical energy The energy that is stored in the bonds between atoms
Circuit A closed path that electricity can flow through (related words: circle, circular)
Conductor A material that transmits energy (related word: conduct)
Electrical energy The ability to do work by movement of electric charge
Heat energy A form of energy that transfers between particles in a substance or system through kinetic energy transfer
Light energy That form of energy that can be seen directly; visible electromagnetic radiation
Sound energy Energy in the form of waves passing through something such as air or water
Transform To change in shape or form
Force A pull or push that is applied to an object
Friction The resistance that one surface or object encounters when moving over another.
Gravity The force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth, or toward any other physical body having mass.
Rest Cease work or movement
Direction A course along which someone or something moves.
Position place where someone or something is located or has been put
Magnetism A special force that allows magnets to pull on certain metals, like iron, making them stick together
Attract To pull something towards oneself
Repel To push away; Poles of the same charge (north and north or south and south) will mutually push away from each other
Mechanical energy The energy that makes things move
Equal force The push or pull on an object that is balanced with another force
Unequal force The push or pull on an object that is not balanced with another force
