Landmarks on Vertebrae
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Spinous Process | Projection on posterior side of vertebrae. In the middle. Always points down |
Body | Round, large portion on the anterior side. |
Vertebral foramen | Large hole in the middle for spinal cord to go through |
Pedicle | Bone that sticks out from vertebral body. Connects to transverse process. |
Transverse Process | Projections that stick out on the sides. Differentiate from left and right. Think of transverse process |
Lamina | Flat, arched bone on superior side. Connect transverse process to the spinous process |
Vertebral arch | The lamina and pedicle combined. It's the whole area |
Superior Articular Process | Projections on lateral superior side of vertebrae. Allows for movement. Differentiate between left and right |
Atlas | Vertebrae that holds up head. C1 first vertebrae that makes up spine |
Axis | Vertebrae that connects to atlas. C2 second joint |
