contraindication Situation in which a treatment or an action is inappropriate
full weight-bearing (FWB) The ability to stand on both legs is called full weight-bearing (FWP)
gait belt it is used to assist with ambulation
manual patient handling Moving a patient by hand or bodily force including pushing, pulling, carrying, holding, or supporting the patient or a patient body part.
mechanical lift used to transfer dependent or heavy patients from one surface to another.
nonweight-bearing (NWB) Unable to stand or walk on one or both legs.
paralysis inability to move any extremity
paresis weakness of an extremity
parial weight-bearing (PWB) unable to bear full weight on one or both legs
pivot when the patient is standing, pivot ( turn the entire body as one unit) to transfer.
sitting (lateral) transfer The patient sits throughout the transfer, such as when a sliding board is used
sliding board a plastic or wooden board about two feet long that has a slippery surface.It is used for a sitting (lateral ) transfer.
standing transfer the patient stands during transfer with the help of one or two nursing assistant
weight-bearing (WB) The ability to stand on one or both legs
