Biology B Unit 4
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Autotroph/Producer | Organisms that can make their own food and can turn Inorganic raw material into organic compounds. Use Photosynthesis to make their own food |
Heterotroph/Consumer | Organism that cannot make their own food |
Gain Energy | Our bodies digest food (break bonds) to get usable energy so they can perform the life processes |
ATP | Stores the chemical energy your cells need, just like a wallet stores the money for you to spend |
Photosynthesis | A process that captures energy from sunlight to create sugar that stores chemical energy. Takes place in the Chloroplast |
Guard Cells | Cells that form an opening in the surface of the leaf |
Stomata | Opening formed by 2 guard cells on the surface and is the site of gas and water exchange that helps maintain homeostasis |
Photosynthesis And Cellular Respiration Cycle | Carbon Dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), and sunlight is used in Photosynthesis by plants to create Oxygen (O2) and Glucose (C6H12O6). Oxygen and Glucose is than used by in cellular respiration by plants and animals to produce ATP and Carbon Dioxide and water |
Cellular Respiration | Chemical energy is released from glucose and makes more ATP when oxygen is present and takes place in the mitochondria of all organisms |
Aerobic | Needs oxygen to take place |
Chemical energy | Found in the bonds of the molecules |
Anaerobic | Does not need oxygen to take place |
Fermentation/Anaerobic Cellular Respiration | Takes place in the cytoplasm of all cells |
Lactic Acid Production | Occurs in the muscle of animals when not enough oxygen is available like during strenuous exercise |
