TermDefinition
Organ A group of tissues that work together to perform a specific function in the body.
Tissue A collection of similar cells that work together to carry out a particular task.
System A group of organs that work together to perform complex functions necessary for life.
Circulatory the system that circulates blood and lymph through the body, consisting of the heart, blood vessels, and blood.
Respiratory the system involved in breathing and the exchange of gases, including the lungs and airways.
Digestive the system that breaks down food into nutrients for the body, consisting of organs such as the stomach and intestines.
Nervous the system that transmits signals between different parts of the body, including the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.
Muscle A tissue in the body that has the ability to contract and produce movement.
Skeletal the system that provides structure and support to the body, consisting of bones and cartilage.
Homeostasis The process by which the body maintains a stable internal environment despite changes in external conditions.
Hormone A chemical substance produced in the body that regulates various functions and processes, including growth and metabolism.
Immune the system that protects the body from diseases and infections through various cells and processes.
Endocrine the system that produces hormones to regulate bodily functions, including growth, metabolism, and mood.
Excretory the system responsible for removing waste products from the body, including the kidneys and bladder.
Cardiovascular the system that includes the heart and blood vessels, responsible for circulating blood and nutrients throughout the body.
