ASO PPD Reading
PPD Result Read (Prep., Procedure, and Post Procedure)
Steps | Detail |

Step 1 - Prep.: | Perform hand hygiene |
Step 2 | Introduce self to patient |
Step 3 | Identify patient with confirmation of full first and last name and D.O.B. |
Step 4 | ***“I have obtained and reviewed the patient’s chart. This reading is being carried out within 48-72 hours after placement” |
Step 5 - Procedure: | Verified the site placement in the patient's record |
Step 6 | Performed hand hygiene |
Step 7 | ***Do NOT don gloves |
Step 8 | With arm on flat surface and in good lighting, turn palm up and slightly flex the elbow to locate the site |
Step 9 | Prior to physical inspection, visually inspect the entire forearm from all angles |
Step 10 | On a firm surface, inspect the entire expanse of the forearm by touching using firm but gentle pressure to achieve slight depth and multidirectional search pattern |
Step 11 | ***Described physical symptoms of a positive reaction (ex: redness, induration, or raised formation) |
Step 12 - Post Procedure: | ***Ask patient if they had any itching, rash, temperatures above 100.4, or any other flu-like symptoms |
Step 13 | Perform hand hygiene |
Step 14 | ***Report any positive reaction symptoms to the provider, if any. Provider will take over determination and documentation from there |
Step 15 | If no physical symptoms of positive reaction, sign off on patient’s paperwork if needed as negative reading |
Step 16 | Document procedure |
