Heart Flashcards

describing what the hearts labels are

QuestionAnswer
Aorta To transport oxygenated blood from the Lv to body tissues.
Left Ventricle Receives oxygenated blood from the La; since it's a ventricle it relaxes and fills with blood again.
Right Ventricle Pumps oxygen-poor to the lungs.
Left Atrium Oxygen-rich blood from the lungs enters the left atrium through the pulmonary vein.
Right Atrium It collects deoxygenated blood and directs it on a pathway to get oxygen from the lungs.
Coronary Artery It circulates blood within your body. Specifically, the arteries send blood straight to your heart,
Apex The apex of the heart is the very tip and helps pump or wring outblood from the ventricles to the rest of the body LV apex or the lungs RV apex.
Superior Vena Cava Carrying oxygen-poor blood to your heart[s right atrium' large vein.
Inferior Vena Cava Carries de-oxygenated blood from the lower body to the heart.
Pulmonary Artery Takes oxygen poor blood from the right ventricle to the right lung.
Pulmonary Veins Blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium.
Cordae Tendinea Connects papillary muscles to heart valves. Prevents valve prolapse during ventricular contraction. Ensures unidirectional blood flow through the heart.
Papillary Muscles It prevents eversion of tricuspid valve.
Septum separating it into left and right chambers. to prevent oxygen-rich blood from the lungs in the left side from mixing with oxygen-poor blood from the body .
bicuspid Valve Opens to increased pressure as the left atrium fills with blood. Blood then flows through the Lv as the heart expands.
Bicuspid/Mitral Valve It has two flaps cusps that open and close to regulate blood flow. The valve allows oxygen-rich blood to flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle.
Aortic Semilunar Valve It Allows oxygenated-rich blood to pass through the Lv into the ascending aorta.
Pulmonary Semilunar Valve Allows blood to leave the heart via the arteries it's one way valve meaning blood cannot flow back into the heart through tit; right side of heart.
Brachiocephalic Artery The Brachiocephalic Artery is a major blood vessel originating from the aorta. It supplies oxygenated blood to the right arm and the head and neck region.
Left Main Coronary Artery The left main coronary artery supplies blood to the left side of the heart muscle (the left ventricle and left atrium).
Left Anterior Descending Coronary Artery It branches from the left main coronary artery, which carries oxygenated blood to the left side of your heart
Circumflex Coronary Artery It delivers oxygenated blood to the back and side of your heart’s left pumping chambers.
Left Posterior Descending Coronary Artery The left anterior descending artery branches off the left coronary artery and supplies blood to the front of the left side of the heart.
Right Coronary Artery The right coronary artery supplies blood to the right ventricle, the right atrium, and the SA ( which regulate the heart rhythm
Posterior DescendingCoronary Artery The posterior interventricular artery (posterior descending artery, PDA) is a branch of the right coronary artery
