how are memories shaped? by current attitudes, people's currents moods, through rosy restrospection
what is mood congruent memory? tendency to remember better positive memories when in a good mood and negative memories when in a bad mood
what is rosy retrospection? tendency to remember mildly favorable events are more pleasant than when you actually experienced them
how are our beliefs shaped? by the use of heuristics (mental shortcuts), through confirmation bias, through our expectations, beliefs confirming beliefs
what are representitiveness heuristics? comparing something to our mental representation of that category
what are availabilty heuristics? if examples are readility available in our memory we usually presume they are more common
what is confirmation bias? seeking information that confirms believes rather than information that might disconfirm beliefs
what can confirmation bias lead to? perseverance
what is belief perseverance? persistance of initial conception or beliegs in the face of discredeting information
what is overconfidence phenomenon? tendency to be more confident than correct or overestimating the accuracy of ones believes
what is illusory correlations? seeing a relationship that does not exist or a much stronger one than actually exists
what is self fulfilling prophecy? a belief that leads to its own fulfillment
