Reflex: Automatic, non-learned innate response - i.e.: blinking to puff of air to eye
classical conditioning - stimulus that does not produce a response is paired with a stimulus that does elicit a response - used on dogs to salivate to meat powder

acquisition training period when a response is reinforced

antecedents Events that precede a response
phobia intense, unrealistic, irrational fear of a specific situation or object; - THEN STIMULUS GENERALIZATION OCCURS and individual becomes fearful of other things
Vicarious Conditioning: Learning to respond emotionally to a stimulus by observing another's emotional reactions
cognitive map internal representation of an area, like a city or a maze; underlies ability to choose alternate paths to the same goal
rote learning takes place mechanically, through repetition and memorization, or by learning rules
spontaneous recovery the return of a previously extinguished conditioned response following a rest period
generalization tendency to respond to stimuli that are similar, but not identical, to a conditioned stimulus (e.g: responding to buzzer or hammer when conditioning was bell)
discrimination the learned ability to respond differently to various stimuli (e.g.: alarms, bells, timers, etc)
