Adrenal Virilism development of male secondary sexual characteristics caused by excessive secretion of the adrenal gland
Adrenocortical carcinoma Cancerous tumor originating in the cortex of the adrenal gland
Adrenocorticohyperplasia Overdevelopment of the cortex of the adrenal gland
Alkalemia Abnormal alkalinity (opposite of acidity) of the blood
Dysmetabolic Syndrome Combination of medical disorders associated with the faulty metabolism
Cortotropin Shorter name for adrenocortotropic hormone (ACTH)
Exophthalmos Protrusion of the eyes out of the eye socket
Galactorrhea Discharge of milk
Gluconeogenesis The formation of glucose from noncarbohydrate sources
hypercholesterolemia excessive cholesterol in the blood
Immunocompromised Having an immune system incapable of responding normally and completely to a pathogen or disease
Embolus Mass of matter present in the blood
Hematoma Mass of blood within an organ, cavity, or tissue
Hemophilia Condition in which the blood doesn't clot, thus causing excessive bleeding
Lymphangitis Inflammation of the lymph vessels
Macrocytosis Condition characterized by large red blood cells
Nephrosplenopexy Surgical fixation of the spleen and a kidney
Petechia Small bruise
Oligocythemia Deficiency in the number of red blood cells
phlebitis inflammation of the veins
Phlebosclerosis Hardening of a vein
Phlebotomy Incision into a vein (technical term for drawing blood)
Pulmonary Circulation Circulation of blood from the heart to the lungs
Restrictive Cardiomyopathy Heart muscle hardens, restricting the expansion of the heart and thus limiting the amount of blood it can pump to the rest of the body
Superior Vena Cava Portion of the Vena cava that gathers blood from the upper portion of the body (head and arms)
Systolic Pressure Pressure exerted on blood vessels when the heart is contracting
Tachycardia Rapid heartbeat
Thrombophlebitis Inflammation of a vein caused by a clot
Transesophageal Electrocardiogram Recording of the heart using sound waves performed by the inserting the sonograph into the esophagus
