Functionalist | A psychologist who studied the function (rather than the structure) of consciousness. These people study how mental processes help animals and people adapt to their enviornment. |
Psychoanalyst | A psychologist who studies how unconscious motives and conflicts determine human behavior. Their role was to be objective; to merely sit and listen and then interpret the associations from the patient. |
Behaviorist | A psychologist who analyzes how organisms learn or modify their behavuir based on their response to events in the enviornment. Their position was that psychology should concern itself only with the observable facts of behavior. |
Humanist | A psychologist who believes that each person has freedom in directing his or her future and achieving personal growth. These people may describe human nature as evolving and self-directed. |
Cognitivist | A psychologist who studies how we process, store, retrieve, and use information and how cognitive processes influence our behavior. |
Psychobiologist | A psychologust who studies how physical and chemical changes in our bodies influence our behavior. Tgese oeioke study how the brain, the nervous system, abd hormones and genetics influence our behavior. |
