Phelbotomy definitions, terms and ORDER OF DRAW

Chelate Chemistry. to combine (an organic compound) with a metallic ion to form a chelate.
endothelium layer of epithelial cells that lines the cavities of the heart and of the blood and lymph vessels and the serous cavities of the body, originating from the mesoderm.
subendothelial beneath the endothelium layer
leukocytes Cells that help the body fight infections and other diseases. Also called white blood cells (wbcs).
Order of Draw-step 1 YELLOW: Blood cultures, SPS (sterile)
Order of Draw-step 2 LIGHT BLUE: 2.) Light blue (sodium citrate tube)
Order of Draw-step 3 RED (plain), or Tiger-Top mottled red (gel separator tube)
Order of Draw-step 4 GREEN AND LIGHT GREEN (heparin tubes)
Order of Draw-step 5 LAVENDER (EDTA)
Order of Draw-step 6 PINK OR WHITE (EDTA)
Order of Draw-step 7 GREY (Na flouride/oxalate)

Order of Draw-step 9 ROYAL BLUE last (Draw Royal Blue top tubes in the order indicated by the additive.)
Step 1 Discard tube "no additive" used ONLY if drawy a blue (citrate) tube with a tube holder and butterfly needle. Used only to remove air from tubing
Step 2 Light blue top (Na Citrate)
Step 3 Red top
Step 4 Light Green (gel lithium heparin) (PST)
Step 5 Green top (note on this chart from a facility says: only Na Heparin available at UIHC)
Step 6 Lavender top-EDTA
Step 7 Pink top-EDTA
Step 8 White top (gel EDTA)
Step 9 Grey top-(na flouride)
Step 10 Yellow top (ACD solution A)
Step 10 Dark blue-(FDP); soy trypsin or soy trypsin inhibitor/Bothrops Atrx venom
Royal Blue top: accord. to additive No additive: Red strip on label-draw as #3
Royal Blue top: accord. to additive Na Heparine-Green strip on label-Draw as #5
