The longer the retina is detached, the more it will _________? | Degenerate |
3 main layers of the eye | 1.Outer (cornea & sclera form the Dense CT capsule). 2.Middle Vascular layer (ciliary body & muscles, Iris w/ dilator & sphincter muscles, lens, Ant & post chambers of aq humour). 3.Retinal layer (Ora serrata, fovea centralis, optic disc). |
What is the Ora Serata? | where the retina ends anteriorly. |
Where is all the vision from the cornea focused after the lens? | Fovea Centralis. |
What is the the posterior 4/5 of the eye? | an extension of the FOREBRAIN called the optic vesicle: 1.Inner & Outer layer become the retina. |
What do the Scleral and Choroid layer develop from? | Ectoderm. |
What forms the lens? | Lens vesicle. |
What do the ciliary muscles and body develop from? | Mesoderm & optic cup. |
What is the Choroid Fissure? | Passes the Hyaloid A to supply the BL to the lens. **This artery later degenerates and turns into retinal A. |
Since the cornea is AVASCULAR, where does it get its nutrients from? | Aq humour in the Anterior Chamber. **Equivalent to BL plasma |
Describe the microanatomy layers of the cornea | 1.Outer epithelium (stratified squamous). 2.Bowman's membrane. 3.Stroma (fibroblasts w/ dense CT). 4.Descemet's membrane. 5.Endothelium (simple squamous) |
What is the Iridocorneal angle? what does it affect? | It is the junction of the Cornea with the sclera, as well as the Iris (the ciliary body is located just below). **This is where aq humour drains out from the anterior chamber through the venous scleral sinus: Canal of Schlemm). |
What is the difference b/w OA glacoma and CA glacoma? | OA: over production of Aq humour. CA: too narrow of an iridocorneal angle. |
Describe the innervation of the ciliary muscle? | Innervated by the PNS. 1.Contraction: suspensory lig relax, lens fattens for NEAR vision. 2.Relaxation: suspensory lig tighten, lens thins for FAR vision. **ONLY NEAR vision requires energy. |
Describe the flow of Aq humour | 1.Produced in ciliary body. 2.Posterior Chamber. 3.Through the pupil into Anterior Chamber. 4.Out the Venous scleral sinus at the iridocorneal angle. |
Control over Pupillary dilator muscle in the iris | SNS via superior cervical ganglia. |
Control over Pupillar sphincter muscle in the iris | PNS via CN III ciliary ganglia. |
