Aspirin mechanism of action
Acetylsalicylic acid has antiplatelet, antipyretic, anti inflammatory and analgesic effects. -inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase which results in a reduction in the formation of prostaglandins and thromboxane
Contraindications (2)
-Know severe allergy -third trimester of pregnancy
Indications
-Myocardial ischemia -STEMI

300mg
Duration
3-5 days for the antiplatelet activity. platelets exposed to aspirin are impaired for the like of the platelet which is 7-10 days. Approx 10% replaced each day
Pharacokinetics
Absorption occurs in the stomach and small intestine. Metabolised in the liver no significant effects from liver impairment on acute administration
Cautions (3)
-know bleeding disorder -clinically significant bleeding known worsening of bronchospasm with NSAIDS
common adverse effects
-increased bleeding -indigestion, gastrointestinal ulceration/ bleeding associated with long term use
