Word-NERVOUS SYSTEMDefinition-NERVOUS SYSTEM
Alzheimer's Disease Progressive, degenerative disease of the brain consisting of dementia, memory loss, impairment to speech, gait, and other cognitive functions. INDICATION
Amyotrophic Lateral sclerosis(ALS) Degeneration of motor neurons at the spinal cord causing muscular weakness and atrophy, cause unknown; also called motor neuron disease or Lou Gehrig's disease after the baseball player who died from the disease. INDICATION
Bell's palsy Inflammation of the facial nerve resulting in temporary paralysis of one side of the face; recovery usually occurs within weeks or months.INDICATION
Brain tumor Cranial tumor either benign or malignant. INDICATION
Cerebral palsy(CP) Brain damage causing motor or posture dysfunctions; result of defect, trauma, or oxygen derivation at birth. INDICATION
Cerebrovascular accident(CVA) Death of brain tissue resultiong from a lack of blood and oxygen in the brain; can be caused by an arterial clot (embolus) that blocks the flow of blood to the brain or a hemorrhage in the brain;(stroke). MEDICAL EMERGENCY; INDICATION REHABILITATION
Concussion Injury to the brain caued by a blow or impact; loss of consciousness, dizziness, vomiting, and shock can result. MEDICAL EMERGENCY
Epilepsy Neurological disorder caused by interference in the brain's electrical impulses resulting in episodic seizures; convulsions, muscle spasms, and loss of conciousness can occur. CONTRAINDICATION IF UNCONCTROLLED
Guillain-Barre syndrome Condition in which the mylein sheaths covering peripheral nerves are destroyed, resulting in loss of sensation and muscle control beginning at the legs and continuing up the body; paralysis can occur.INDICATION
Headaches Moderate, migraine, tensions, cluster, posttraumatic. MIGRAINE, CLUSTER, OR POSTTRAUMATIC- GENERAL CONTRAINDICATION, TENSION-INDICATION
Meningitis Bacterial or viral infection of the meninges that surround the brain and spinal cord; can be fatal if untreated. MEDICAL EMERGENCY
Multiple sclerosis(MS) Chronic autoimmune disease affectiong the brain and spinal cord; the body attacks and destroys the myelin sheaths surrounding brain and spinal cord nervous. INDICATION
Neuralgia Intense pain caused by irritation or injury to a nerve. GENERAL CONTRAINDICATION
Parkinson's disease Chronic disorder of the nervous system resulting in tremors,muscular weakness, rigidity , and shuffleing gait. INDICATION
Sciatica Pain along the large sciatic nerve that runs from the lower back down the back of each leg; often caused by pressure on the nerve from a herniated (slipped) disk. CONTRAINDICATION UNDIAGNOSED; INDICATOIN
Shingles Painful rash erupting along a sensory nerve path. GENERAL CONTRAINDICATION
Spinal cord injury(SCI) Damage to the spinal cord due to trauma; can result in paralysis of certain areas of the body; paraplegia refers to paralysis from the waist down; quadriplegia refers to paralysis from shoulders down. GENERAL CONTRAINDICATION-ACUTE PHASE, INDICATION-AFTER
Transient ischemic attack(TIA) Temporary interference with blood and oxygen supply to the brain; aso called ministroke; may lead to true stroke. MEDICAL EMERGENCY
