CHS Psychology Class Jack-Definitions of Neurotransmitters

Acetylcholine -Controls muscle contractions. -Associated with the Hippocampus part of the brain that deals with memory. -Less of it means impaired memory
Dopamine Controls voluntary movements such as learning, memory, and emotional arousal. Schizophrenics ovwer use dopamine. Creates more receptor sites, brain unable to focus.
Norepinephrine Largely produced in brain stem. Often acts as a hormone. Not enough- mood disorders.
Serotonin Controls emotional arousal and sleep. Not enough leads to insomnia, anxiety, and mood disorders.
