Protein | Nutrients needed by the body for building new tissue |
Carbohydrates | Energy producing foods such as starches and sugars |
Cholesterol | A waxy substances that is carried around the body in the bloodstream by lipoproteins |
Basal Metabolism | The ability of the body to use energy at a higher rate when the body is at rest |
Calorie | A unit of heat the body uses for energy |
LDL | Bad cholesterol |
HDL | Good cholesterol |
Complex Carbohydrates | Starches that are broken down by the body into two or more sugars |
Amino Acids | The chief component of every protein |
Saturated Fat | Fats that tend to increase cholesterol levels |
Unsaturated Fat | Fats that don't tend to elevate cholesterol levels |
Glucose | Type of sugar made from carbohydrates |
Insulin | A hormone released from the pancreas to regulate the sugar in the body |
