Anatomy- Digestive System

Organs and order that make up the GI tract mouth->esophagus->stomach->small intestine->large intestine-> rectum->anus
What the digestive system is responsible for digestion and processing food
Digestive process of the mouth food is partly broken down by the process of chewing and salivary enzymes (break down of starches) & a bolus is made
Digestive Process of the espphagus after being swallowed, the food enters and uses rhythmic, wave-like muscle movements (peristalsis) to move food from throat in stomach
Digestive Process of the stomach food is partly digested & mixed with a stomach acid, called chyme
A large, sack-like organ that contains a very strong acid (gastric acid) the stomach
Digestive Process of small intestine bile (produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder), pancreatic enzymes & other digestive enzymes help break down the food
Duodenum first part of the small intestine where food enters
Jejunum food enters here after duodenum in small intestine
Ileum last stop for food in the small intestine
Here some of the water & electrolytes are removed from the food large intestine or colon
First part of the large intestine is called the cecum (the appendix is connected to the cecum)
After the cecum food travles upward in the ascending colon
After the ascending colon food travel across the abdomen in the transverse colon
After the transverse colon food goes back down the other side of the body in the descending colon
The last stop for food in the large intestine is to go through the sigmoid colon
Solid waste leaves the colon and is stored in the rectum
Where solid waste is excreted via the anus
