Identify and define the three basic steps of processing information for memory. Encoding, storage and retrieval. Encoding which it getting information into the memory system, storage is retaining information in memory overtime and, retrieval is getting information out of memory storage.
Contrast automatic processing with effortful processing. Unconscious process of encoding certain information without effort, such as space, time and frequency.
Describe the benefits if rehearsal (practice) and overlearning. The benefits of rehearsal practice are the more time you spend on rehearsing information, the more effective your memory will be. Overlearning is continuing to rehearse information even after it has been memorized.
Describe the role of serial position effect in memory. Use primary effect and recency effect in your answer. The serial position effect a people given a lists of items and later asked to recall the items had little trouble remembering the first few items (primary effect) and the last few items (the recency effect) The hardest items to recall are those in middle
Define semantic encoding. Is it more or less effective than acoustic or visual encoding? Semantic encoding is more effective iption is to make the material meaningful, a process known as semnatic encoding. It is more effective.
Analyze the use of mnemonic devices ? Mnemonic devices are memory tricks it techniques such as asking someone "which way do you set your clock for daylight savings time."
Describe why is It important to organize information when encoding. How does chunking okay a role in encoding? It is important to encode information to organize things or important information you couldn't take at first. It plays a role by breaking things up into chunks.
Discuss some tips for becoming a better encoder. Which of these ideas can you put in practice NOW to improve your performance in school ? Some tips for encoding could be to organize information into a hierarchy is an effective encoding technique. Some things I can put into progress could be to organize important information like some notes.
Define sensory memory. What role does the iconic store or echoic store play in sensory memory? Sensory memory is a brief, initial coding of sensory information in the memory system. Long enough to make a decision about importance we visual decide about visual sensory information while it is the iconic store.
