Pes Planus

What is Pes Planus? | A decrease in the medial longitudinal arch & pronated hindfoot. |
What are the names of the three arches? | Medial longitudinal arch, lateral longitudinal arch, and anterior trasverse arch. |
Which type of Pes Planus can a RMT affect? | Functional - ligaments and muscles. Not structural due to bone. |
Which muscles are affected by Pes Planus? | Tibialis anterior, gastrocs, soleus and peroneals. |
What are four postural findings? | - Pronation of the foot- Valgus Achilles - Calus formation on first metatarsal and talus head.- Interal rotation of the tibialis or femur. |
What types of testing can be used for Pes Planus? | Active dorsiflex - less; active internal rotation - less; length test of the gastroc/soleus - decreased. |
What are the two strategies with this condition? | Stretch the short, strengthen the weak. |
What are some causes of Pes Planus? | Hypermobility, shortened muscles, weakness, nerve legions, trauma, congenital abnormalities in bones, habitually poor posture, poor footware. |
What areas to you lengthen | Only the long lonitudinal arch, not the medial. |
Which muscles are lengthened? | Tibialis posterior. |
Which muscles are shortened? | Gastrocs, soleus and peroneals. |
