Landmarks when looking at bones
Term | Definition |

Process | A projection from a bone |
Crest | A prominent ridge |
Tubercule | A small, rounded projection |
Trochanter | A large, rough projection |
Tuberosity | A smaller, rough projection |
Ramus | An extension of a bone that makes and angle with the rest of the bone like a branch of a tree |
Spine | A pointed or narrow process |
Line | A low ridge |
Foramen | A rounded passage way or hole for blood vessels or nerves |
Head | An expanded articular surface separated from the shaft by a neck |
Neck | A narrow connection between a head and the shaft of a bone |
Condyle | A smooth, rounded articular surface |
Trochlea | A smooth, grooved articular surface shaped like a pulley |
Facet | A small, flat articular surface |
Fossa | A shallow depression |
Meatus | A canal or passage way through the substance of a bone |
Fissure | An elongated cleft |
Epicondyle | A term for a projection above a condyle |
