Perception3

Perceiving Motion

QuestionAnswer
Apparent Motion when at least to stimui are in slightly diffrent locations paired with correct timing, the observer percevies motion. (movies,tv, moving signs)
Real Motion Actual movement of an object.
Induce Motion occers when the motion of one object causes a nearby stationary object to appear to move. Ex: The moon(stationary) appears to move when the clouds(IN motion) move past it
Motion Aftereffects occurafter viewing a moving stimulus for 30-60 sec and then viewing a stationary stimulus, which then appears to move. Ex:Waterfall Illusion
Waterfall Illusion if you look at a water fall for 30-60sec then look away to a scene that is stationary then everything (rocks, trees, grass) aprear to move up for a few seconds.
Coherence used to indicate the degree to which the dots move in the same direction(retina)
Corollary Discharge Theory says the perceptual system uses a signal called the corollary discharge to take into the account the fact that the observere's eye in moving.
(MS)Motor Signals The eye moves because of this signal being sent form the motor area of your brain to your eye muscles.
(CDS)Corollary Discharge Signal A copy of the signal that is sent from the brain to the eye muscles. it is sent from the hyptherical comparator.
Comparator Relays information back to the back of the brain that the eye is moving.
(IDS) Image Dispacement Signal The signal tha occurs when an immage stimulates the receptors by moving across them.
Implied Motion showing the observer a picture that dipicts a situation involving motion. the observer sees
Motion Agnosia The inability to perceve motion caused by brain damage
Illusory motion Perception of motion whne there actually is none
Local Disturbance in Optic Array Occurs when on object moves reelitive to the environment, covering and uncovering the stationary background.
Golbal Optic Flow information for movment that occurs when all eleements in a scene move. indicates that the observer is moving and not the scene
Real Motion Neuron this neuron only responds when the stimulus moves
Point-Light Walker stimuli created by placing small lights on people's joints and then filming the patterns created when moved in the dark

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
